Eastwood Nursery School
Welcome to Maple, Beech and Chestnut Classes which together form the Maintained Nursery School part of Eastwood. As with all our nursery provision the focus is on children’s learning through relevant, exciting, memorable first hand experiences. Children explore a vast range of mathematical concepts over their time with us- including cardinal numbers, ordinal numbers, division, 2D and 3D shapes and measure- including height, weight, length and capacity. We explore Letters and Sounds phase 1 and 2 and the children all learn a wide range of traditional songs which they regularly sing to their parents and carers in our concerts. Children regularly go out on Forest School outings, plant trees, seeds and flowers and create models in the woodwork area using real hammers, saws, glue gun and nails! they do this independently because we teach children to take risks and keep themselves safe.
Our weekly newsletters give valuable information about the learning that has been taking place at Eastwood. We are highly ambitious for our children and know that achievement and wellbeing are completely interdependent. All of this takes place in an environment where children can move
Eastwood’s Maintained Nursery School provides 80 full time equivalent places for children mainly from the age of 3. This operates term time only and provides 15 hour a week places with a small number of full time places available for children with single parents in full time work or study; children identified as having particular additional needs at the discretion of the Headteacher. The school day runs from 9.15 to 3.15 and the 15 hour places are generally each morning or each afternoon plus one full day a week when children are ready to stay that bit longer and to have lunch with us.
2 Year Olds
Eastwood Nursery School is commissioned to provide the same high quality early education but with an earlier start for local children identified as being ‘in need’. The children are included seamlessly within the life of Beech and Maple classes and their key person or the headteacher will be an active member of their ‘Team Around the Child’.
